Another letter home.

TIGER:

Dear Mom,

We’re at sea again, and thank god for that. For a variety of reasons Colombo was a very frustrating experience. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of things I had to tear up no less than thirteen pages. I console myself with the knowledge that its a good sign—any writer worth his salt always savages his manuscript. Its part of the process. If you don’t, the critics will. But don’t worry, Mom, your story will be told. That remains a solemn promise. Even with those thirteen gone there are still one hundred and thirty-two pages of it on my table. Our next port of call is Singapore, where we take on bunkers and supplies, and then head for Japan, the port of Niigata. The Captain has warned me that after Singapore the weather is going to get very cold . . .
